Renal and Urology News has an article up Peritoneal Dialysis Best Way to Start that reports the most recent results from the Gambro Survey.
The Gambro Survey, if it was conduct as it has been in previous years, is a survey of the 2007 attendees of a number of renal conferneces worldwide: the Annual Dialysis Conference, the ERA-EDTA, the ISPD congress, the EDTNA-ERCA conference, and the ASN meeting. The Renal and Urology News report includes the results that the survey respondents thought "the best long-term dialysis treatment" was "HD and/or self-care HD/hemodiafiltration (HDF) more than three times a week" with 37% choosing it over conventional hemodialysis (22%) or peritoneal dialysis (21%) over the long term.
The Gambro Press release of their 2007 survey is available from the Gambro site.

When I first started to dialyze, tons of people wanted me to do PD, but the very idea skeeves me out. Weird that I'm fine with the needles and stuff but the idea of fluid in my gut gives me the willies.

For me the tube was the deal breaker. I've thought about switching to it ... to try it. And just because you never hear of someone doing that - switching to PD after years of hemo. Why not?
