Here are the CKD related blogs updated since my update on 8/3. If you have or know of a blog that should be on the list let Bill know. Comments in parentheses are my reactions or opinions.
- Dialysis from the sharp end of the needle has the blog report.
- Kamal Shah's Blog Kamal comments on the long names used in some Web programming methods; his prostate pain is back despite months of antibiotics, he gets some more tests, the sodium phosphate added to his dialysate is raising his BP, Cinacalcet (Sensipar) has lowered his PTH from 1000 (too high) to 72 (too low), the dose is being adjusted.
- Kaply, Inc. Tracy has appointments lined up with the orthopedist and vascular surgeon; the orthopedist gives the okay to ride her Vespa and Tracy, after feeling blah for a while, goes out and gets a fabulous new haircut. (You look great!) and a parking ticket. (Oh well, at least you're back on the road again.)
- Toastiest feels more deterioration of his health status and dreads the idea of dialysis; liked the movie Last Chance Harvey and wouldn't mind escaping to London and meeting an Emma Thompson of his own; finds out an alternate definition of his nickname.
- The Life of a 20-Something With Lupus makes a short video about her life with lupus for a contest to win tuition. (Very moving, we hope you win.)
- Becky Perry reviews Sweetwater Run by Jan Watson.
- The Adventures of Stacy Without An E Stacy describes some of the people he loathes at dialysis and how miserable he is there; not only is he disgusted and depressed with the whole thing but he is furious (and rightly so) with the industry that visualizes every patient as a huge dollar sign.
- On the Road to a Cure has a a list of upcoming Walk For Lupus Now events taking place during the month of August.
- I Am. Are you? posts photos of different donor mascots in the U.S. (Pretty funny collection) and a link to (I kid you not!) Petey the Pee Cup and Pokey the Syringe; announces the seven recipients who will represent Illinois at the World Transplant Games.
- Lupus and Humor has a synopsis and review of Lupus Novice: Toward Self-Healing, by Laura Chester.
- Dialyse This passed out while on dialysis, then had stomach flu, is concerned about changes in the nurse/patient ratio at her unit.
- Bud's Ramblings Bud has a beef with the power company, had bad cramping at dialysis so they lowered his fluid removal goal, he dreads weighing in tomorrow; has concerns about the way the president of his Home Owners Association does business.
- Renal Fellow Network A study demonstrates a link between serum alkaline phosphatase levels and vascular calcification in patients with CKD5; A study shows that certain urine biomarkers may help in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis; A paper examines the development of CKD in non-renal organ transplants,(It's all those nephrotoxic immunosuppressants.)
- Uremic Frost reports on a study showing that lower birth weight (LBW) is associated with increased risk of decreased kidney function and kidney failure. Newborns less than five pounds have a 70% greater risk of developing chronic kidney disease later in life.
- Renal tsar's blog discusses the implications of economic recession on renal care and how to address it; a link to a new resource intended to support the management of chronic kidney disease ; looks to see what the USA's new bundling system is going to really do to home HD, and whether there will be lessons there applicable to the UK health system.
- pkdmom2five looks at the definitions of sin and immorality; is upset by the abandonment by people she thought were friends.
- Lemonade and Kidneys Ruth hopes her son's surgery will be healed before they head out on vacation to the beach.
- Mid-life ramblings Dianne started her NxStage training and is feeling clumsy because she had a flood with the bags (All of us who are on NxStage felt awkward to begin with. You are going to become an expert NxStage user before long. To connect with other NxStage dialyzors for support go check out the NxStageUsers website), and had a scare while driving in her car.
- Chronicals of the PD Warrior shares a very interesting video lecture on the concept of open-mindedness.
- The inner game of PKD explains how to use a neuro-linguistic programming technique when talking with friends about PKD (or any other chronic condition).
- I need a kidney Jason neglected posting because he felt good and was focusing on living but he still needs a kidney, his friends and community are helping publicize his need, he awaits the birth of his baby. (I follow Jason on Facebook so I'm delighted to share that Violet Gray Hamlin was born August 5, 9:40 a.m. 6 pounds, 8 ounces, 18 inches, and she is tremendously beautiful. Congratulations, Jason!)
- My New (Transplanted) Kidney Al describes his daily clinic routine and medication adjustments post-transplant; he's feeling great, Imodium is helping diarrhea, went on a scenic drive and even got to drive a few blocks himself.
- My Kidney - Stories about Life (and living!) with Bum Kidneys Her kidney is having an unexplained rejection episode, hoping medication changes will help; is scared but hopeful and grateful for her friends.
