This the largest and most venerable NKC unit houses over 50 dialysis stations - including the Special Care Unitâ„¢ a bedded, high staff ratio unit; the home hemodialysis training unit which supports over 70 people at home on hemodialysis; the peritoneal dialysis training unit which supports over 110 people at home on peritoneal dialysis; and the Progressive Care unit with 18 stations - a community outpatient dialysis unit. The Haviland Kidney center also houses NKC's Human Resources Department and offices supporting research, nutrition services, social work services, etc.

The unit is named for one of the founders of NKC James Haviland who in 1962 was instrumental in establishing the Seattle Artificial Kidney Center which was later renamed the Northwest Kidney Centers.
