" I’m saying even if the system could support 100,000 home dialyzors, which it can’t for the foreseeable future, that leaves 400,000 individuals incenter. What about them? We need to talk about research that will benefit all dialyzors, not just me, and others willing to dialyze at home."

Most of the research that is done on dialysis each year, thousands of studies, is about standard in-center hemo. Improving dialysis has never been an either/or situation. At MEI, at least, we have always tried to improve in-center practices (through our Core Curriculum for the Dialysis Technician, UFR-calculator (http://www.homedialysis.org/ufr-calculator), research, and advocacy, while ALSO raising awareness and use of home therapies. There is no reason the nephrology community cannot do both.
